I spent some time yesterday implementing some tome things I have been working on for a while, and I am proud of how they turned out.
First, I had been waffling for months on whether or not to use Kubrick. It is a beautiful template, but I wasn’t familiar enough to “make it my own.” I feel that I am now over the hump, and I am slowly tweaking it. For now, I have opted to have the right menu on all pages (this may change). It may make designers cringe but, hey, it’s my site.
Second, there are many different ways to do “static pages”, like my About Page. The method that I have opted for is to modify Kitty’s Show Categories to have hidden categories, and then not display the standard footer (comments, etc) for posts of that category.
Finally, the work that I am most proud of is an alternative way to do Archives. I started out with LaughingLizard’s Nicer Archives mod, and tweaked the hell out of it. It is now a plug-in, and is a way to show only the title of posts as the archives. It does not create “nice urls” quite yet, and the styling of the output needs work, but its useable for now.

It looks great and I now see why this is going to be useful to me. Remaindered links, about page, etc. Kool… Oh boy, more work.
