I recently stumbled across an article in New Mobility that discusses the correlation between disability and depression. I did not expect much from the article since New Mobility is more geared towards spinal chord injuries and other acquired disabilities (or so I thought).
It turns out that the article has several salient points. The issue is not the disability per se “causing” depression, but that the struggles (especially with human interactions) happen time and again. Even though I may be reflective and try to adjust in “way in the world” to put people at ease, there is really not that much I can do — unlike Bill Murray in the movie Groundhog Day.
